Jiang Wen: Hardcore director
Jiang Wen, where serenity and wildness, insolence and persistence co-exist, has had Venice in submission more than once. In 2007, actor-director brought his film The Sun Also Rises to Venice. Along with a setting sun and emotional cinema music, his film concluded its screening session with thunderous applause. As the film ended, chairman of the festival Marco Muller rushed over to embrace his Chinese friend. Eleven years earlier, Jiang's directorial debut In the Heat of the Sun sent the tender actor Xia Yu, who acted for the first time in the film, to win the Volpi Cup for Best Actor.
