TEHRAN - Iranian Vice-President Ali Saidlu said his country will try its best to host the upcoming 16th summit of the Non-Alighned Movement (NAM), local media reported Tuesday.
The NAM meeting, set to be held from August 26-31, will let the world know more about Iran's culture, civilization and technological and scientific progress, Ali Saidlu was quoted as saying.
During the NAM summit, Egypt, the current NAM presidency holder, will hand over the rotating presidency to Iran.
In recent months, Iranian high-ranking officials have been touring the world to invite leaders to participate in the upcoming NAM summit.
The NAM, founded in 1961, has altogether 120 member states as of 2012. Azerbaijan and Fiji became its newest members in the 16th ministerial meeting held in Indonesia last year.
The NAM's members consider themselves not aligned formally with or against any major political bloc.
