Vietnam, India cement cooperation ties

HANOI - Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang received a delegation of the India-Vietnam Solidarity Committee of West-Bengal state led by its President Geetesh Sharman here on Tuesday.
At the reception, Sang welcomed the delegation's visit to Vietnam and expressed his belief that the visit will strengthen the long traditional relation and cooperation between the two countries.
In recent years, cooperation between Vietnam and India has developed smoothly, especially since the establishing of strategic partnership in July 2007.
In recent years, the two sides have promoted exchanges and cooperation in various fields, including economy, defense, culture and education.
During President Sang's last visit to India, the two sides reached agreements on sectors of petrol, aviation and agriculture. In particular, an agreement of establishment of a direct flight was signed.
For his part, Sharman said that the potential of cooperation between the two countries has not been fully tapped yet. Sharman hopes the Vietnamese government will facilitate the cooperation between Vietnam and India in the future.
In 2011, the Vietnam-India bilateral trade turnover reached $3.9 billion, posting an increase of 42 percent year-on- year.
