Tao Wei, China Central Television's famous soccer commentator, has been found dead in a hotel room, Beijing News reports.
The 42-year-old was discovered dead in his room at the Nishi Haitai Hotel in Jinan, East China's Shandong province sometime on Monday. The cause of the death is still under investigation, local police said on their twitter-like Sina Weibo at 1 am on Aug 28.
The news sparked a wave of unsubstantiated rumors over the young man's death. Some suggested a heart attack, but this was immediately dismissed as it was known Tao exercised regularly. Others allege more sinister motives that have not been discussed or confirmed by police.
The local police later said that they haven't found any clues relating to homicide.
Tao's coworkers at CCTV say he was a hardworking and modest person who had a good reputation among colleagues and maintained a healthy lifestyle, according to the paper.
Tao was a soccer player for more than a decade before becoming a soccer commentator for CCTV. He also owned a soccer club in Beijing.
