An elderly woman gained Internet popularity after she publicly encouraged her gay grandson to find his true love.
The 90-year-old woman, from Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian province, expressed opposition toward discrimination against gays in an online video that was widely circulated through micro blogs.
"My grandson is gay. He is filial and obedient. I love him very much. I hope he can find a boyfriend and lead a happy life," the woman said in the video.
Her grandson, a 28-year-old engineer, said even though his parents strongly opposed his sexual orientation, his grandmother encouraged him and even persuaded his parents to accept the fact.
Lots of netizens expressed their support of the grandmother and she was nicknamed "the good grandmother of China", which sounds similar in Mandarin to a popular music show "The Voice of China".
