BONN, Germany - China will further support the missions of the United Nations and strengthen its cooperation with the UN, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said here on Monday.

"China is willing to further support the missions of the United Nations and the work of its Secretary-General and strengthen its cooperation with the UN to promote world peace, security and development," the minister said during his meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the sidelines of an international conference on Afghanistan held in Bonn, Germany.

With the international situation continuing to change in a complex and profound manner, more attention has been paid to the UN's role, he said.

"China appreciates the efforts of the United Nations in Afghanistan's reconstruction process and supports the UN in continuing to play a leading role in coordinating international aids to Afghanistan and promoting its political reconstruction," Yang said, adding that China would like to enhance communication and coordination with the UN to promote an early solution of the Afghan issue.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said the United Nations thought highly of the active role China played in international issues including the Afghan issue and was willing to further bolster up its cooperation with China.

The two sides also exchanged views on issues of common concern with regard to international and regional hot issues.

Delegates from over 100 countries and international organizations gathered in Bonn to draw up a roadmap for Afghanistan's future.
