Co-hosted by five political groups of the European Parliament, representatives from major parties of the European Union member countries and other European regions will attend the forum, according to the department’s latest participant list.

This conference is the second session of the inter-party forum, which held its first part in Beijing and Tianjin this May. Themed "China's 12th Five-Year Plan and Europe 2020 Strategy: New Opportunities and Prospects for China-Europe Cooperation, more than 30 European political parties attended the forum, according to the department.

"2011 marks the commencement of China’s 12th Five-Year Plan and Europe's 2020 Strategy," said Wang Huang, director of the department’s Bureau of Western European Affairs.

"Both plans share commonalities in the goals and concepts of development between China and Europe," Wang said. "This sets a vast ground for China-Europe cooperation."

Participants attending the first session of the forum, Wang said, focused on exploring new approaches and solutions to issues such as China-Europe trade, social development and global governance. The second session to be held in November will stress continuity with the first and look at potential areas of cooperation between China and Europe in urbanization, new energy and low-carbon technologies.

The First China-Europe High-Level Political Parties Forum took place in 2010, and participants from both sides have since been working on establishing a regular channel of inter-party exchanges, Wang said.
