Net profit of Chinese Internet company NetEase Inc increased by 25 percent year-on-year to 1.1 billion yuan ($179.8 million) in the second quarter, thanks to strong sales of self-developed online games and advertising services, the firm said on Thursday.
Unaudited second-quarter revenue rose by 20.4 percent year-on-year to 2.4 billion yuan, with revenue from online games and advertising services increasing by 18.2 percent and 33.3 percent.
"We made a number of advancements with our online games in the second quarter," William Ding, chief executive officer, said in a statement.
NetEase launched a new 3D real-time strategy game, Heroes of Three Kingdoms, and also introduced new expansion packs for several other games.
It has started to promote games on mobile devices. In July, the company introduced Fantasy Westward Journey II, one of its most popular games, to mobile platforms.
"Mobile devices present a terrific platform for us to extend the reach of our games from PC to mobile players and enhance the user experience," Ding said.
NetEase plans to release more new mobile games in the coming months, he added.
Revenue from NetEase's e-mail, wireless value-added services and others was 75.1 million yuan for the second quarter, compared to 65.4 million yuan and 51.4 million yuan for the preceding quarter and the second quarter of 2012.
