ISLAMABAD - At least five people were killed and over 100 others injured as a passenger train collided with a cargo train in Pakistan's central Multan district on Thursday morning, local media and officials said.
Nadir Chattha, the deputy commissioner of the district, said that the freight train was standing at the railway track when the passenger train, coming from the same direction, collided with it near Bucch Railway station of Multan in Punjab province.
The official said that the freight train overran a man after which it stopped and the driver was removing his body from the track when the accident happened.
Local Urdu TV channel Geo said that the accident left five people killed and over 100 injured who are being shifted to various hospitals of the district.
Rescue teams said that the death toll is feared to rise as many people are still stranded in the bogies of the passenger train.
