MEXICO CITY - The Mexican government on Monday condemned the attack on Mexican sailors at a Polish beach, which left 17 people injured.
The Mexican Foreign Ministry said in a statement that 57 marines from the Cuauhtemoc training ship were resting on a beach near Gdynia port on Sunday, when they were beaten by some 300 Polish "soccer fans."
The crew, all cadets and officers, were on a training mission near the Baltic Sea beach. Among them, 17 were injured in the scuffle and two were hospitalized.
The ministry has presented a diplomatic note to the Polish Foreign Ministry demanding an investigation.
Mexico also summoned the Polish ambassador in Mexico City to express concern of the assault.
