Turkish police seizes 221 kg of hashish

ANKARA - Turkish police seized 221 kg of hashish in a truck in eastern Turkey on Tuesday, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.

Turkish police searched the truck and found 221.8 kg of hashish stashed in secret compartments of the truck in Baskale town of province of Van, according to the report.

Two people were detained in the operation and an investigation is underway, it said.

Turkey is a key transit route for smuggling drugs from Asia and the Middle East to markets in western Europe.
