BANGKOK - Two F16 jet fighters of the Royal Thai Air Force crashed Monday while they were joining US-Thai military exercise, and two pilots on board were rescued.

According to Air Vice Marshal Monton Sanchukorn, two F16 jet fighters reportedly disappeared from the radar screen at around 10. 20 am local time after four of them took off from an air force base in northeastern Nakhonratchasima province to join joint military exercise with the US air force as part of Cobra Gold 2011 war game.

Later the two F16s were found crashed in northeastern Chaiyabhum province.

Air Chief Marshal Intaporn Supawong has already directed the investigation and rescue team to go to the crash area.

Two pilots of both jet fighters were safely rescued afterwards.

The Royal Thai Air Force is now coordinating with relevant agencies to examine the cause of the accident.

The two F16s were initially reported to clash.
