Mayor of town in south Mexico shot dead

MEXICO- The mayor of Santiago Amoltepec in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, Luis Jimenez Mata, was shot to death at home by a gunman Thursday, police said.

Jimenez Mata, 45, planned to go to the General Government Secretariat in the capital of Oaxaca for several appointments. The authorities are still investigating the motive of the killing.

This is the third mayor killed in Mexico in two weeks. Last Friday Zaragoza Mayor Saul Vara Rivera was killed in Coahuila, Northern Mexico. Three days later, Temoac Mayor Abraham Ortiz was killed in the State of Mexico.
