7.1 magnitude quake hits Chile

BEIJING - A strong earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale hit central Chile at 04:20 am (Beijing Time) Monday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

With a depth of 30 km, the epicenter was 38.2 degrees south latitude and 73.3 degrees west longitude.

The epicenter is about 590 km away from the capital San Diego.
