Bomb kills 2 policemen, injures 9 in S. Thailand

BANGKOK - Two policemen have been killed and nine other people injured in a bomb attack in south Thailand's Narathiwat province, according to Bangkok Post online Sunday.

The incident took place after a local resident saw two male teenagers dropp a suspicious object near his house at dawn on Saturday and then alerted local police, the English-language news website reported.

One policeman who inspected the bomb was killed instantly as the device went off while another was seriously injured and died later at hospital.

Nine other people, including members of a bomb disposal squad and civilians, were injured.  

Police said the bomb was a five-kilogram homemade device, assembled in a metal box, according to the Bangkok Post online report.

The blast also slightly damaged two nearby houses.
