More than 90 embassies and international non-governmental organizations gathered on Nov 2 in Beijing's Chaoyang Park to help alleviate poverty in China.
The theme of the fifth annual Love Knows No Boarders international charity bazaar focused on water as the source of life. The event aimed to raise awareness and money to help build water cellars in Yunnan province’s Jinping and Ma Lipo counties.
According to officials' first estimates, the event raised RMB3 million. The project will help 2,400 residents of Yunnan’s less-developed mountain areas have easier access to drinking water.
China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his wife, Qian Wei, attended the opening ceremony along with Le Aimei, the honorary ambassador of the Poverty Alleviation Program.
Visitors were able to buy clothes, food and souvenirs at the 93 stands operated by embassies and NGOs. All of the proceeds from the bazaar will go to the water cellar construction project.
