The 8th International Cartoon Competition on Environmental Protection was held in Nantong, Jiangsu province, on Wednesday to raise awareness of growing global climate issues.
June 5 is also World Environment Day. Wang Hao, deputy editor-in-chief of China Daily, Zhu Jin, deputy mayor of Nantong, attended the opening ceremony with a number of other leaders.
The Cartoon Competition on Environmental Protection, which was sponsored by China Daily and other organizations, was designed not only to raise awareness of climate issues, but also to initiate environmental protection practices within society. It is expected to provide a platform for better communications and promotions to environmental causes.
The theme of this year’s competition is “Save, regenerate, environment”. The slogan advocates reducing food waste and carbon emission. The competition has a collection of more than 10,000 works of art from the past seven years. Organizers expect to attract more attention and dedication to environmental protection through creative cartoons drawn by the contestants.
The event will last six months.
