British Ambassador Sebastian Wood visited the Shunyi Chinese Paralympian Training Center on Tuesday to meet some of the athletes. The visit marked the start of the 200-day countdown to the opening of London's 2012 Paralympic Games.
During his visit to the biggest Chinese Paralympian training camp, Wood visited three teams - namely, swimming, blind women's croquet and wheelchair boccia, and was accompanied by Mr. Jia Yong, the executive deputy chairman of China’s Paralympic Committee.
The ambassador was briefed about the teams'preparation and work with Paralympians. Chatting with the athletes, the ambassador shared his excitement about the Games and promised a warm welcome in London for the Chinese Paralympians.
In return for a London Paralympic Games mascot as a gift from the ambassador, the croquet team presented him with a T-Shirt signed by members of the team and also invited him to wear a blind mask to experience their blind world. He also visited the exhibition of the Chinese Paralympic movement.
Wood said he was moved by the Beijing Paralympics and the Chinese Paralympians and wished them good luck in London.
