Workers deserve paid leave
Comment on "Call for more holiday time" (China Daily, May 20)
It's a pity that Chinese employees don't get enough paid leave. More than 40 percent of the respondents to a recent National Tourism Administration survey on people's leisure time and vacation said that they didn't get any paid leave. But the figure, I think, is much higher. In fact, I didn't get any paid leave last year.
Private enterprises seldom give enough vacations to their employees. In many cases, even if workers have a contract with their employers to grant them paid leave, the latter often refuse to honor their commitment on the pretext of "pressure of work". And employees often find themselves at a disadvantage when it comes to negotiating paid leaves with their bosses.
So, to protect employees' rights, the government should take measures to strictly implement the labor laws. And I hope to get more holidays every year so that I can spend more time with my family.
