A waste of resources

Comment on "Stimulating consumption a catastrophe" (China Daily, Nov 30)
Consumption must be boosted to help the domestic market grow. Selective measures such as helping rural families buy consumer products such as electronics goods is a positive step toward improving people's quality of life and standard of living.
A more important thing, however, is to guarantee the quality of the electronics goods that they have access to.
It is ironic to see that many of the first-generation refrigerators and TV sets available in China still work today while some recently made electrical and electronics products stop working or go kaput in a short time. The authorities must ensure that strict quality control measures are implemented on all products.
Making low-quality or substandard products is a tremendous waste of energy and natural resources, and the authorities should take immediate steps to stop it.
