Short campus romance
Two of Taiwan's most popular young actors Kai Ko and Berlin Chen worked together for the first time in Dive in 2013, a four-episode short film available online now. The story, lasting about 90 minutes, tells the story of campus romance. Ko, 22, has become many girls' heartthrob after leading the campus romance You Are the Apple of My Eye, which swept Asian box offices in 2011. Chen, 30, portrays a perfect boyfriend in a TV drama hit called In Time with You and is now a popular actor/singer.
Heavy-color paints the world
Chinese artist Zhou Changxin will start his world tour with his innovative art form of heavy-color oil painting and porcelains. The first stop will be at Venice in Italy from May 29 to Oct 15. He plans to spend 10 years touring the world with his show. Among the countries he will visit are Germany, France, Britain and Russia. The new form of art named zhongcai in Chinese is a combination of Chinese traditional painting and oil painting from the West. It employs the technique of Chinese heavy-color painting to highlight colors.
Century-old chorus
China Musicians' Association and China Choirs Federation presented a chorus concert at the National Center for the Performing Arts to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first chorus song in modern China on May 22. In 1913, Li Shutong (1880-1942), composer and music educator returned from abroad and created the song Spring Outing, which is considered the first chorus song in modern China. The concert was performed by choirs from NCPA, People's Liberation Army and China Choirs Federation. On Thursday, the Chinese Musician's Association also held a forum to commemorate Li and discuss about the development of choral music in China.
Art award
The 7th Award of Art China recently unveiled its list of awards for artists and arts organizations at the Forbidden City. There are 13 awards including award of the year for art publication, artist of the year and award of lifetime achievement. The newly added award for the most influential overseas artist in China was given to French-American artist Louise Bourgeois (1911-2010). The selection process took six months with nine rounds of initial tests and one final competition.
