BEIJING - The total number of deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC) stood at 2,943 as the top legislature confirmed the election, resignation and dismissal of deputies on Friday.
The NPC Standing Committee confirmed the dismissal of Wei Hong, NPC deputy and former governor of southwest China's Sichuan Province. The Sichuan provincial legislature disqualified Wei as an NPC deputy earlier this month since he was dismissed from the government post for "discipline violations."
The top legislature also finalized the forced resignation of two NPC deputies, Zhao Shengxuan from east China's Shandong Province and Liu Shuisheng from east China's Jiangxi Province. Both were investigated for violating disciplines.
Seven other NPC deputies were confirmed to have resigned from their posts for different reasons, including graft investigation, change of work and personal matters.
Two other NPC deputies had passed away and their membership terminated accordingly.
In addition, the top legislature confirmed the election of 21 new deputies from a number of provinces.
