A prosecuting authority in East China's Jiangsu province has approved the arrest of an official suspected of raping a minor, Xinhua News Agency reported on Tuesday.
Li Xiaobin, an officer with the work safety administration in Siyang county, is suspected of raping a high school girl after taking her to a remote area on Aug 14. According to an official report, Li confessed to the crime after he was detained by police.
The report says Li had been in contact with the girl online and had previously asked her for a meeting, but she refused. However, their online chat records show that he was able to discover her location by talking with her online again, said the report.
Prosecutors approved the arrest on Sunday and said they would be strict in dealing with the case, bearing in mind its negative effects, the report added.
