At a meeting in Nanning, capital of Guangxi, on Feb 15, Liang Shengli, head of the regional public security department, asked subordinate authorities to improve interaction with the public. An online public security system will also be built in the first half of the year to provide better service and receive ratings from the public, he added.

Liuzhou police started its official microblog on t.sina.com.cn in June, which proved to be a success, with over 121,000 followers and their accolades.

A spokesman for the regional public security bureau said the microblog has served as a platform for the police to make announcements and the public to offer suggestions and information. Last year, whistle-blowers helped in over 100 cases through the microblog.
