Chongqing gets tough on festival fireworks

People who set off fireworks and firecrackers at public entertainment places during the upcoming Spring Festival will face police detention in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, according to its municipal fire prevention brigade.

Those who are responsible for fire accidents due to lax fireworks management will be strictly punished, Chongqing Evening News said Friday.

Fireworks and firecracker sellers who don't meet fire prevention standards or illegally hold excessive inventory will also be detained by police.
