Guangdong basketball club fined for bribery attempt

The China Basketball Association (CBA) announced on its website a 30,000 yuan ($4,525) fine Wednesday for basketball club Guangdong Winnerway for trying to bribe a referee and sent the announcement to the other clubs, Metro Express reported.

The announcement did not say which game the bribery attempt happened.

Guangdong Winnerway had been under surveillance for some time. In the 2008-2009 season, Guangdong got only one point in the fourth quarter, leading to serious suspicion.
