Suva - A Fijian government official on Tuesday highlighted the cooperation with China in developing the island nation, saying China will be funding most of the development works across Fiji in 2011.

Pio Tikoduadua, permanent secretary to Fijian Prime Minister's office, told local press that with the assistance from China, Fiji is carrying out infrastructure development works across the country, which include the construction of new roads and the pipeline.

According to the state-owned Fiji Broadcasting Commission on Tuesday, all major development works will be funded by the Chinese government.

Tikoduadua stressed that while the government is trying its best to develop the country it needs the co-operation from the people to build a better Fiji.

Fijian Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said earlier that Fiji's relationship with China has gone from strength to strength every year.

"China recognizes what we are trying to do and what we have gone through because they have gone through the same things," and "they also understand our situation and they are helping us through our work to help the people of Fiji," he said in November at the commemoration of the 35th anniversary of China and Fiji's diplomatic ties.
