2 HK tourists dead in road accident in Japan

TOKYO - A car collided into a truck in Japan's Hokkaido late Wednesday, leaving two Hong Kong tourists dead and another seriously injured, said Liu Zhijian, an official from the Chinese consulate general in Sapporo on Thursday.

According to local police, the accident occurred near Kimobetsu at around 9:40 pm  Wednesday when one of the two cars carrying nine tourists from Hong Kong, collided head-on with a truck on the icy road of State Highway 230, and was subsequently rear-ended by the other, Liu told Xinhua.

A driver and a 9-year-old girl were killed and another seriously injured in the car smash. And the rest six remained intact, he said.

The Chinese consulate general is now helping cope with the aftermath of the traffic accident, he said.
