BEIJING - Authorities seized 86 shipments of substandard imported food in June, according to official data issued on Monday.

Microorganisms, unqualified food additives and product quality were the major problems found with the imports, which came from 23 countries or regions, according to figures released by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).

Eight shipments of substandard cosmetic products imported from three countries or regions were also seized due to their substandard quality, use of banned additives or microorganism contamination.

The products were either returned to sender or destroyed and did not enter the Chinese market.
