Chinese shares open higher on year's first trading day

BEIJING - Chinese shares opened higher on the first trading day of the new year on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.61 percent to 2,825.33 at the opening.
The Shenzhen Component Index rose 0.96 percent to 12,578.45 at the opening.
