Turandot returns to her homeland
Working with an international cast of A-list artists, Guangzhou Opera House will stage its production of Puccini's Turandot this weekend. The story, set in China, involves foreign prince Calaf, who falls in love with the Chinese princess Turandot. The resplendent stage setting and glamorous costumes present a vivid scenario of an ancient Chinese dynasty to the audience. The cast includes conductor Daniel Oren, American soprano Lise Lindstrom as Turandot, and Russian tenor Vladimir Galouzine as Calaf.

Two snakes are better than one
Green Snake, the acclaimed production of Tian Qinxin, one of China's best theater directors, will be staged in Guangzhou from June 27-29. With a modern twist on an old Chinese legend, the drama portrays two snakes wishing to become human beings and thus tasting sweet love, bitter hatred and other human emotions. Actress Yuan Quan takes on the role of White Snake, Qin Hailu is her sister the Green Snake, and actor Xin Baiqing is the Buddha Fa Hai.

Guangdong showcases its emerging artists

Seven young artists are showcasing their talent at an exhibition at the Guangdong Museum of Art until June 28. Visitors can expect a variety of art forms including Chinese paintings, water color paintings, oil paintings, engravings and lacquer paintings. The Guangdong Artists Association has been hosting such exhibitions to promote the province's emerging artists and contemporary art since 1986.

Life Style Festival for music and crafts
More than 15 singers and bands will rock the stage of a three-day music festival that kicks off on Friday. Highlights of Life Style Festival 2013 are pop star Denise Ho and rocker Paul Wong from Hong Kong and jazz singer Joanna Wang from Taiwan. Besides these well-known names, rising singers and bands will also stage their alternative music, including folk, electronic and rock. Meanwhile, more than 60 brands from iMart, which has a seven-year history, will see young people display their original art crafts.
