A conference to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the birth of versatile professor Yu Hsiu Ku, or Gu Yuxiu, was held at the Central Conservatory of Music.
Gu was a musician, dramatist, poet, Buddhism researcher and engineer. He was the founder of the former National Conservatory, the predecessor of the Central Conservatory of Music, and also served as the Dean of Engineering at the Tsinghua University in Peking.
In 1950, Ku moved to the United States, where he was a professor of electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and at the University of Pennsylvania.
The Central Conservatory of Music also held a concert with Ku’s musical works as part of the event.
