A man in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan province, retrieved his wallet by checking footage from 22 surveillance cameras on the road where he left it, Dahe Daily reported on Friday.

Surnamed Meng, the man transferred 200,000 yuan ($32,510) to a friend's account at about 5 pm on March 11 at an ATM, and left his wallet at the machine. Three minutes later, Meng went back to the machine but his wallet was missing. The wallet held a few thousand yuan in cash, several bank cards, and an IOU for 780,000 yuan.

Meng reported the loss to police and was told that it was a case of losing, not stealing, so could not be put on file for investigation.

The next day, Meng, with help from his friends, checked footage from the surveillance camera installed above the ATM and saw the man who took his wallet. He then checked another 21 cameras along the road until he found the place where the man lived, and got back his wallet.
