A passenger on a flight from Hong Kong was caught trying to smuggle 121 live ball pythons, classified as an endangered species, the official website of People's Daily reported.

The passenger flew from Hong Kong on Nov 6 with 21 plastic boxes.

The ball pythons, wrapped in black silk stockings, were hidden in the boxes.

The man, now facing criminal charges, declared them as rubber toy snakes.
