The 16-year-old Chinese girl Ye Mengyuan, one of the three victims of the Asiana flight air crash in San Francisco, was killed after being run over by a fire vehicle that was racing to the wreckage, authorities confirmed on Friday.

Ye died of blunt force trauma as a result of being hit by a rescue truck, confirmed San Mateo County Coroner Robert Foucrault.

Wang Chuan, a spokesperson at the Chinese Consulate, said on Friday that they offer their deepest condolences for the tragic death.

"We urge the involved parties of the US side to deal properly with the aftermath of Mengyuan's death for this tragic accident," he said.

San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee also issued a statement on the San Mateo County Coroner's Office release of findings on the death of Ye.

"I am profoundly saddened by the involvement of a responding emergency vehicle in the death 16-year-old Ye Mengyuan," said Lee. "On behalf of the people of San Francisco, I offer my deepest condolences and regret for her tragic death, and the deaths of her close friend Wang Linjia, and 15-year-old Liu Yipeng," he said.

The accident happened around noon of July 6 when Asiana Flight 214 -- a Boeing 777 jetliner -- crash landed in San Francisco International Airport with 307 people on board.

Three Chinese died as a result of the crash -- two at the scene, including Ye, and one later in the hospital.
