CHENGDU - A Tibetan monk set himself on fire Monday afternoon on a street in the county seat of Aba in Southwest China's Sichuan province, local authorities confirmed Tuesday.
Police rushed to put out the fire and sent him to a local hospital, said a spokesman for the county's government.
The 18-year-old monk Losang Gyatso from the Kirti Monastery in the Aba Tibetan-Qiang Autonomous Prefecture set himself ablaze at Qiatang West Street in the county.
A Tibetan nun died from self-immolation in the same prefecture on Saturday evening.
The 19-year-old nun has been identified as Tenzin Choedron at Siwa Nunnery. She died on the way to hospital.
Investigations into these cases are under way.
