DOHA, Qatar - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in Doha on Wednesday for an official visit to Qatar.

During the visit, Wen was expected to meet with Qatari leaders and exchange views with them on China-Qatar relations as well as international and regional issues of common concern.

"China attaches much importance to relations with Qatar and is ready to make concerted efforts with the country to promote practical cooperation between the two countries in every sector," Wen said in a written speech delivered upon his arrival at the Doha airport.

Since the two countries established diplomatic ties 24 years ago, they have maintained good communications and coordination on regional and international affairs, the premier said.

Bilateral cooperation between the two countries in such fields as politics, trade and economy, energy and culture has been fruitful, he said.

Wen said China is ready to work with Qatar to continue deepening the friendship between the two peoples and pushing forward China-Qatar pragmatic cooperation.

"I am sure that this visit will further enhance mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples and promote bilateral ties to a higher level," he said.

Earlier in the day, Wen concluded his official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), during which he exchanged views on issues of common concern with UAE leaders and the two countries agreed to establish a strategic partnership.
