The Republic of Korea said it is willing to communicate with China over whether to deploy a US anti-missile system, according to a news release issued by China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.
The ROK also said it doesn't want the issue over the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system to harm China's interests or influence its relations with China.
It said it attaches great importance to its strategic cooperative partnership with China, while the international community should act in solidarity to deal with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's recent nuclear test and satellite launch.
The remarks were made on Tuesday when Vice-Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui visited Seoul for the seventh China-ROK High-Level Strategic Dialogue between Foreign Ministries.
Zhang also met the ROK Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se and ROK senior presidential foreign affairs and security secretary Kim Kyou-hyun on Tuesday.
Zhang reiterated China's grave concern about, and opposition to, the deployment of the THAAD in the ROK, and said China hopes relevant parties will deal with the issue cautiously.
China attaches great importance to its relations with the ROK, and is willing to work with the ROK to push the bilateral relations to always develop on the correct track, he said.
On the day of Zhang's visit, ROK President Park Geun-hye voiced a tough warning to the DPRK. Tensions over the Korean peninsula have been increasing since the DPRK announced a successful nuclear test on Jan 6.
