WELLINGTON - New Zealand police said Friday they have seized millions of dollars worth of illegal drugs, cash and property, and arrested one Chinese and two New Zealand citizens in a crackdown on methamphetamine supply.

Operation Roller, which focused on the biggest city of Auckland, netted 4.5 million NZ dollars ($3.54 million) worth of methamphetamine, 2.8 million NZ dollars ($2.2 million) in cash, five homes and three high-value motor vehicles, police said in a statement.

Detectives from the Organized and Financial Crime Agency of New Zealand also arrested three suspects during the operation.

On Oct 24, a 61-year-old New Zealand citizen appeared in court on drugs-related charges following the discovery of 2 kg of methamphetamine at a property in a southeastern suburb.

A 23-year-old Chinese national and a 43-year-old New Zealand citizen also faced drugs-related charges following the discovery of 2.5 kg of methamphetamine at an address in the city's upmarket Remuera district.

Detective Senior Sergeant Colin Parmenter said Operation Roller said that demand for methamphetamine in New Zealand remained high.

"Police will continue to target organized criminal groups that manufacture and supply methamphetamine to prevent the harm it causes in our community," Parmenter said in the statement.

Police were also looking for Chi Wo Lau, a 41-year-old New Zealand citizen, in relation to Operation Roller, he said.

Cooperation between New Zealand and Chinese police had resulted in several successful operations targeting the transnational methamphetamine trade, the New Zealand Police said last month.

Operation Ghost, New Zealand's largest case involving the ContacNT precursor, which ended last year, was solved through cooperation with China's National Narcotics Control Commission and Chinese police anti-narcotics units.

Separately, a significant amount of precursor chemicals with the potential to produce millions of dollars worth of methamphetamine was also seized by Customs at the New Zealand border earlier this year, resulting in arrests in New Zealand and in China.

The New Zealand Police have officers stationed in Beijing and Chengdu to work with Chinese counterparts.
