MANILA - A female journalist was shot and critically wounded at the doorstep of her house in Cavite province of northern Philippines by unidentified gunmen on Sunday.
Rubie Garcia, 52, a correspondent of the tabloid paper Remate, was shot by three suspects at her house in Talaba village around 9 am.
National Press Club president Benny Antiporda denounced the attack on Garcia, calling on the Aquino administration to solve the attack against Garcia as soon as possible.
Noting the government's indifference to NPC's pleas to end killings of media personnel and form a task force to go after the attackers, Antiporda said the "enemies of press freedom are getting bold each day."
"The attack against Garcia, therefore, signals the heightened threat to the physical safety of journalists even in the nation's capital," said Antiporda.
"What is more galling is that her house is just a stone's throw away from the local police station but as usual, the suspects managed to escape," added Antiporda.
