French President Francois Hollande (R) greets ex-hostage Vandenbeusch (L), who embraces Monsignor Gerard Daucourt (2nd L), Bishop of Nanterre, at the military airport in Villacoublay, near Paris, Jan 1, 2014. Vandenbeusch, 42, who was kidnapped November 13, 2013 in northern Cameroon, was released on Monday and said he had spent the weeks pacing his tent prison, torn by a mixture of boredom and anger. The kidnapping was one of a series of attacks on French targets in Africa since France launched a military intervention in Mali in Jan to oust al Qaeda Islamists who had forged links with Boko Haram militants.
