TEHRAN - Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast dismissed on Tuesday a new UN General Assembly resolution on the human rights condition in Iran.

Mehmanparast said that while the Western powers accuse Iran of violating human rights in the Islamic Republic, they are themselves among the greatest violators of human rights.

Western countries use human rights as a political tool against the Islamic Republic, Mehmanparast said in his weekly press briefing.

If human rights issues are to be examined in a fair, serious and impartial manner, the crimes of the United States and other countries should also be investigated, he added.

On Tuesday, Head of Iran's High Council for Human Rights Mohammad-Javad Larijani criticized the UN chief over a report of Tehran's human rights violation, the local satellite Press TV reported.

On Monday, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution drawing upon human rights abuse in Iran.
