CAIRO - Egypt's Prosecutor General Abdel Maguid Mahmoud ordered on Sunday to transfer former President Hosni Mubarak to a military hospital before Tora prison hospital is ready to receive him.

Mubarak, who is currently treated in a hospital in the Red Sea resort Sharm el-Sheikh, is expected to be moved to the military- run International Medical Center near Cairo on Tuesday, state news agency MENA quoted an official source as saying.

Mahmoud tasked the Interior Ministry with completing the installation of necessary medical equipment as soon as possible at Tora prison hospital to receive Mubarak, the spokesman for the public prosecution Adel el-Said said Sunday.

According to a statement of the General Prosecutor's office, a report of forensic doctor showed Mubarak's health was well enough to be moved to the Tora prison hospital, but the conditions of the hospital is still not prepared, adding it will take one month to install the required medical equipment in its intensive care unit.

The ex-president was hospitalized in Sharm el-Sheikh on April 12 after he suffered a heart attack during questioning by prosecutors, one day before the top prosecutor ordered to detain him and his two sons for 15 days pending questioning over a deadly crackdown on protestors and corruption.

Mahmoud decided on Friday to renew the detention of Mubarak for another 15 days.

Mubarak reportedly sent a request to the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces to allow him to stay in Sharm el-Sheikh, but his petition was refused.

Mubarak was forced to step down and transferred power to the military on February 11 after 18 days of protests against his 30-year rule. He and his family then moved to Sharm el-Sheikh.
