Dalian is regarded as one of the most livable cities in China

Unlike the great ancient bastions of power, such as Beijing, Xi'an and Nanjing, which boast many historical relics, ruins and temples, the beautiful coastal city of Dalian offers a new and refreshing travel experience.

Facing the ocean on three sides, the city in Northeast China's Liaoning province is a prosperous port at the southernmost tip of Liaodong Peninsula and is the trading and financial center of the region.

Billed as the "Romantic Capital" and "Northern Pearl of China", the city is proud of its clean environment and in 2001 was named a Model Environmental City by the United Nations. It was the first city in China to receive this honor and only the second in Asia.

Dalian is known for its pleasant climate, sandy beaches, and breathtaking mountain views and in summer is great place to go swimming. The sunny beaches and clearly demarcated seasons make it a pleasant get away spot to beat the heat.

As well as its stunning ocean views, the city is also famous for its immaculate lawns, open town squares, abundant fountains and beautiful gardens. Many call it "a city built in the gardens".

The varying styles of buildings in Dalian are particularly attractive with a colonial legacy of Russian, European and Japanese architecture.
