Some fans are never satisfied

As reigning World Cup champion, Germany faces lofty expectations. A 4-0 rout is far from enough to convince insatiable fans who still push for more goals.

The four-time champion eased past humble Gibraltar in their Euro 2016 qualifier on Friday. As host, Germany's productive striker Thomas Müller scored twice before Mario Götze added another to make it 3-0 before halftime. Gibraltar's Yogan Santos' own goal wrapped up the one-sided performance which still made German coach Joachim Löw unhappy.

Germans are known for showing their ruthless side by delivering big goal-difference victories. The most recent example was the 7-1 humiliation of host Brazil in July's World Cup semifinal, causing public distress in the South American country where soccer represents national pride.

This time, in a meeting with Gibraltar, a much weaker opponent which only played its first international in September, it's natural that people who have been accustomed to a victorious Germany expected more.

Those worried, however, have their own reasons to be so. Germany made a bumpy start in its Euro 2016 qualifying and remains three points behind Group D leader Poland.

World champions often experience a let down after grabbing the top honor. Spain is the only country to win three major tournaments in a row as champion of Euro 2008, World Cup 2010 and Euro 2012.
