Comment on "Ministry: Upgrade of arms won't alter policy" (China Daily, Sept 1)
Every country, including China and the United States, needs weapons to safeguard its territory and protect its people and resources from external threats.
The quality and quantity of the weapons a country acquires depends on its financial and technological capability. This is a convention known and followed by all countries, and has been practiced throughout human history.
The US wants to maintain its supremacy and uses its military power to do so, amassing more weapons of ever-increasing destructive power on the way. To justify these actions, Washington has to create artificial threats and imaginary enemies, something that it has been doing for years.
