China monitors EU vegetables for E. coli

China has strengthened the monitoring of vegetable imports from Europe following a deadly outbreak of E.coli on the continent.
The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine demanded all entry-exit inspection and quarantine authorities to beef up the monitoring of E.coli in vegetables imported from Europe, it said in a statement on its website on Thursday.

China does not import such fresh vegetables as cucumber, tomato, eggplant, lettuce from the European nations, the statement said.
