British digital firms eye China market

BEIJING – British digital companies come to China to seek investment and business partners as China has a fast developing market and many potential Chinese partners are keen to cooperate with them.

Robert Nashak, executive vice-president of BBC Worldwide's Digital Entertainment, said BBC worldwide is committed to build a global multi-format brand and will bring more TV entertainment programs, video games and other creative products to China.

BBC already cooperates with Hunan TV with popular TV programs, like Strictly Come Dancing, a program having 20 million viewers per show and local version produced in 35 countries.

BBC Worldwide wants to build a children education center in Shanghai on June 18 to make full use of its popular children's brands, including Teletubbies and In the Night Garden. BBC seeks strong long-term partners for cooperation in online games, SNS, mobile games and social network.

Crystal CG International's London branch, a visual creative solution provider based on digital graphics technology, seeks Chinese partners to expand its market in China.

Crystal CG is the provider of digital imaging service for 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and now is working for London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games on digital imaging of the game's mascots.

Gilles Albaredes, managing director of Crystal CG International, said that Crystal CG will integrate itself with Chinese partners despite differences in language, work style and cultural background.

Liverpool-based digital entertainment company Playbox, creating fresh and original games for home entertainment systems and mobile devices, brings new multiplayer technology to China and seeks to broaden Chinese market.

Gary Nichols, managing director of Playbox, said they consider that Chinese market is massive and wants to cooperate with Chinese partners who are best in the field of digital game.

Knifedge the Creative Network is a British local creative and digital agency providing innovative approaches for cross-media communication.

Jonathan Brigden, the managing director of Knifedge Creative Network said even though they have not started their business in China, they are willing to cooperate with Chinese partners. "The criteria for us to choose partners is that they have similar creative concept with us," he added.

Zhang Yan, a trade and investment officer of British embassy in China, said that the commercial cooperation between British and Chinese companies will bring fast development to both British and Chinese digital industry.
