LI KEQIANG, Chinese premier, vowing on Oct 10 to strengthen maritime cooperation with members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, while calling on countries in the region to resolve territorial and maritime disputes through consultation.

"China is the fastest-aging country with the largest aging population and poor elderly support facilities. People's well-being and the country's further development depend much on whether the aging issue is addressed properly."
ZHENG GONGCHENG, a member of the National People's Congress Standing Committee and professor at Renmin University of China, talking about the challenge posed by the aging issue in a People's Daily report on Oct 14.
"Many people have concerns over housing. Only a few universities in Beijing and Shanghai provide housing for their researchers. Factors including the environment and food safety also trouble some talents. A brilliant researcher who could have been my colleague chose to stay in the United States because of the terrible smog in Beijing this year."
WANG XIUJIE, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, talking about factors that hinder Chinese talent studying overseas from returning to work, quoted in a China Youth Daily report on Oct 10.
