The 'Blown Away' singer turns 31 in March and would love the next decade to be spent raising children with husband Mike Fisher.
She said: "I'd like a family. Not a big one, but not a small one either. I really want my 30s to be all about my family. When we do have kids its going to be wonderful. I think two is a good number.
"Mike's going to be the best dad ever. That makes the whole parent situation much, much better."
Carrie and Mike have recently bought 400 acres of land outside of Nashville where they plan to build their dream home, and the singer says she wants to keep plenty of animals.
She added: "I want cows and pigs and goats and chickens."
Carrie also has two dogs - Penny and Ace - and Mike thinks they have been good practice for the star before she has children.
He joked: "If she treats her kids half as good as she treats the dogs, they'll be in great shape."
The couple plan to share the responsibility of childcare equally.
Carrie told Life & Style magazine: "It won't ever be just mom in the kitchen at our house. When we have kids it will still be a family affair."
